PLEbaum Guide

Overview
Product Description
In addition to confirming original project goals and partner institutions - including in terms of the depth of existing use of Web 2.0 technologies in partner institutions and participating schools and companies - the PLEbaum Guide goes on to provide a series of useful pointers in terms of technical and organisational planning for those considering the introduction of a Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for students or staff. Particularly useful are sections dedicated to the selection of technical tools (chapter 4), and key considerations prior to the implementation of a PLE in a School (chapter 5) or Company (chapter 6) with the latter confirming social, organisational and technical requirements, alongside potential obstacles or barriers to successful implementation and use.
Needs, Context and Use
Project and product delivery each centred on the contribution that new technologies can make in terms of facilitating learning delivery and knowledge sharing among students and staff (employees). Benefits are well argued in the guide both from an institutional (school, training centre) and individual company perspective. Pre- conditions for the use of a Personal Learning Environment, or PLE, in schools and companies are directly addressed in the PLEbaum Guide. There are no observable pre-conditions for use of the PLEbaum Guide other than a willingness to learn of the benefits and requirements for PLE introduction and use in a school or workplace. For those wishing to embark on the introduction of a PLE, or simply wishing to consider the use of one or more new technologies, in school or in the workplace, the PLEbaum Guide provides useful pointers and confirms the required key considerations and requirements.
